How do I Join?
Complete the electronic joining form. Your library card will be posted out to you in the next few days and will be ready to use immediately.
Join at a library
Come into any Libraries in Halton. No identification is necessary, (unless you are applying for a Library Leisure Card).
What are the benefits of joining?
- Borrow up to 12 books for free from any Halton library for 3 weeks
- Borrow up to 4 talking books for 3 weeks for a small charge
- Borrow 4 media items including videos, CDs, Cassettes, CD-ROMs and DVDs for a small charge
- Free reservations on all books in stock
- Reserve books that are not in stock for a small charge
- Free access to the Internet
- Access to a range of learning courses, including Learndirect and European Computer Driving Licence
What if I want to renew it?
If they are not required by anyone else, items can be renewed in person by telephone by using your library card number.
They can also be renewed from the catalogue on the Internet
What happens if I don't return my books on time?
If you keep books after the date they were due back you will be charged a fine (this does not apply to borrowers under 16)
If you keep AV items after the date they were due back you will be charged the renewal fee for video's and a fine for other items

What stock does the library hold and what do I have on loan?
You can use the OPACs, which each library has, to find out what books are held by the Halton libraries. Or use the Catalogue on the Internet.
The Catalogue allows you to:
- Find the latest books by your favourite author, on a particular subject, or in a series
- Reserve books
- Check what books you have on loan
- Renew your books
- Check to see if you have any reserved books to collect
